The CSW-24, AKA the M249 at home.

This was the answer to a niche problem in the minute man/prepared citizen team idea. We felt there was a need for a support weapon role in the team setup and that there wasn’t much out there in terms of a good “fit”. There are uppers from other companies that are excellent like Red Right Hand LLC, Klein Machining and Fightlite. There was only one problem really, the price. We wanted to design a solid, heavy barreled upper that could handle a large volume of fire and also just looked cool as shit for the M249 vibes. It also had to come in at under $1,500 so that the average person could reasonably afford it and deploy it. We settled on a 16 inch mid gas barrel for easy of use, decent ballistics, weight and overall size.

The Specifics:

• Free floating 16 Inch 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium barrel with a chrome lined bore and an exterior phosphate finish, 1/7 twist with a heavy profile
• Mid length nitride gas system with a railed gas block and integrated sling mount
• JTF MK1 upper with dry film lube interior finish
• Real surplus M249 handguard to act as a heat shield and fore end
• C158 Bolt carrier group for durable reliability
• DDC Hard Charger side charging handle
• BCM MCMR primary rail and steel barrel nut OR Midwest Industries Combat Rail HD (Gen 3 URG)
• Milspec upper parts kit and forward assist
• US Made A2 flash hider

So what do all those parts do when they come together? They form a solid, durable upper with a completely free floating heavy profile barrel with double heat shielding that doesn’t impede airflow. The side charger handle makes it easier to manipulate the bolt while in the prone position but can also be used like a traditional milspec charging handle if need be. For field expedient repairs the side charging handle can be replaced in seconds with a standard AR style one without tools. All these features mean that that your support weapon can share parts, magazines and ammunition with standard AR platforms you may already have. This simplifies logistics while increasing effectiveness. This upper can also integrate a 30 caliber pintle mount and/or an M60 “gooseneck” style mount to use on vehicles or static positions. It can also use almost any bipod that mounts via picatinny or M-LOK by way of the MCMR rail keeping the barrel free floated whether you use the pintle mount or bipod.
